Christmas at OzMOSaics is never ordinary — not when Binny the MOBOT is on the loose. While most folks are stringing fairy lights and hanging baubles, Binny and the Wizard of MOS are out on their annual Yuletide shard hunt.
Gloves on, wheels squeaking, Binny rolls through Brisbane like Santa’s cheeky sidekick. But instead of reindeer and sleigh bells, it’s clattering lids and the sparkle of tesserae. Broken ornaments? Treasure. Cracked plates from Christmas lunch? Jackpot. Even a snapped candy cane decoration gets hoisted triumphantly into the stash.
Dave, mortified as ever, mutters, “You’ll be seen!” while Binny zips past with glee, beak twitching for sparkle. The Wizard just laughs: “It’s Christmas, mate — no one gets in front of us when we’re in scavenger mode!” And true enough, they take no prisoners. Garage sales, op shops, kerbside bins — all yield festive finds destined for mosaic glory.
Back at the studio, the haul is sorted like presents under a tree. Smalti shards glisten like tinsel, mirror chips twinkle like fairy lights, and odd treasures pile up like stockings stuffed with surprises. The Mosaic Bug presides over the stashroom, cackling like an elf who knows the best secrets.
Visitors to the studio hear the squeak of Binny’s wheels before they see her. “There goes Binny’s Christmas Caper!” someone shouts, as she zooms past with a trail of glittering shards. And in true MOS style, every rescued fragment becomes part of the season’s magic — mosaics that sparkle with the joy of discovery.
So this Christmas, while others unwrap gifts, Binny unwraps bins. Because in the world of MOS, the greatest present of all is the glee of the hunt — and the sparkle of shards reborn into art.
